Sustainable Forestry Policy

Jasper Lumber Company, Inc. and Southern Wood Chips, Inc. (The Company) are committed to implementing and achieving the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Standard (2022 Edition) as a part of its fiber sourcing program to broaden the practice of sustainable forestry.

The Company promotes scientifically, environmentally, socially and economically sustainable forestry practices to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability for future generations to meet their needs. This is accomplished by promoting a land stewardship ethic that integrates reforestations, growing, managing, and harvesting of trees for useful products with the conservation of soil, air and water quality, biological diversity, wildlife and aquatic habitat, recreation and aesthetics.

The Company’s SFI Policy is to promote the Principles of Sustainable Forest Management including: practicing sustainable forestry, employing responsible practices, regenerating the forest and protecting water resources, protecting special sites and biological diversity, complying with legal requirements, managing visual impacts and providing recreational opportunities for the public, promoting sustainable forestry to landowners, supporting forestry research, training and education, promoting community involvement and transparency, and continually improving forest practices.

The Company is also committed to comply with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, including social laws, and takes appropriate steps to comply. It also promotes forest certification with family forest owners and requires loggers to participate in appropriate state logger training programs. The Company works closely with the Alabama SFI Implementation Committee and the Alabama Forestry Association to expand professionalism and the practice of sustainable forestry.

To implement and achieve the SFI Standard Principles, Objectives, Performance Measures and Indicators, the Company has developed and adopted programs and plans to guide its wood procurement activities. These programs and plans are contained in appropriate documents including the SFI Manual and the SFI Procurement Program.

The Company is committed to an annual review of the effectiveness of its SFI Policies, Programs, and Systems and will continue to improve its sustainable forestry practices.
